I think in my next life I want to be a carpenter. I love the process of working with wood, and the calculations, and the fitting and all of it.
I knew as soon as I purchased my house that I wanted to build a deck on this crazy hump outside my patio doors.
Like how crazy is that. This is actually the back of my house. The house sits sideways on the street - so the front entrance is on the side and therefore this is the other side so essentially it makes this my back yard.
I loved all the green, but it just look so unfinished.
So I thought - go big ... and I did. (The finished deck is 12FT x 45FT)
Day 1 - the posts go in.
About Day 3 - the herringbone pattern appears
Day 5 - the horizontal railings go up
Day ?? (Lost track) The stairs go in
And finally the fun part:
I knew what I wanted and the wicker couch and chairs were just the ticket. The flower pots (also in wicker) were a happy coincidence.
My patio set is on the modern side, grey and sleek. I had had enough of glass top tables that you are constantly wiping
I found that the addition of the carpet really made a difference to help define the sitting space.
I still have lots of ideas for my deck like pictures on the stone walls and definitely more pillows and throws on the couch.
I have been out here every single morning and night (and on weekends all day) since the deck was finished. I hoped it would be worth every penny ... and it is.
